Raising goslings requires careful attention to their diet and environment, especially in the early stages. Goslings thrive on leafy greens, so it's best to prepare a nutritious mash by chopping vegetables into fine strands and mixing them with 20% to 30% mature broken rice. Vegetables should make up 70% to 80% of the mixture. Spread this mash onto clean straw mats or plastic sheets, allowing the goslings to eat freely. During the first week after hatching, feed them 6 to 7 times during the day and 2 to 3 times at night. As they grow older, gradually reduce the number of feedings.
In early spring, when temperatures are lower, provide goslings with a shallow basin of water for free access. Once the weather warms up, place them in bamboo baskets and take them to shallow river areas for short water sessions—two to three times a day, every two to three minutes. After one week of age, you can take them to the river during sunny midday hours. It's crucial to maintain a temperature above 20°C for the first two weeks and keep the bedding clean and dry to prevent illness.
When goslings are ready for their first grazing, choose windless, sunny days. After feeding, take them to nearby grasslands and let them move freely for about an hour before returning home. Gradually increase the time and distance as they grow. By the third week, they can graze all day and only need one evening feeding. By the fourth week, they can be fed only once a day, without nighttime feedings. It’s ideal to manage groups of 250 to 300 goslings, with two people handling each group. Drive them in a rectangular formation, encouraging slow movement so all can eat properly.
Start the day by leading the geese out at dawn, bring them back for rest at noon, send them out again in the afternoon, and return them home at sunset. If they are grazing all day, ensure they have shaded areas to rest at noon. Avoid grazing on rainy days.
For disease prevention, focus on protecting goslings from gosling plague and avian influenza. Vaccination is the primary method to boost immunity. To prevent flu, mix oxytetracycline powder into their feed at a concentration of 0.02%. For treatment, inject penicillin at 20,000 IU per kilogram of body weight. Garlic and sugar water can also serve as both preventive and curative measures. Regular monitoring and good hygiene practices are essential for healthy growth.
