Establishment and cultivation methods of meat pigeons

First, set up a suitable area for raising pigeons: The initial breeding households in family farming typically raise around 100 pairs of pigeons, requiring an area of approximately 35 to 40 square meters. In addition to repurposing old buildings, farmers can construct simple lofts. It's recommended to cover the young breeder pigeons with nylon nets after they are placed into the loft. Breeding lofts should ideally be constructed as single-sloped glass-frame structures that utilize solar heating for better temperature control.

Second, daily feeding and management: 1. Breeding of production pigeons: These pigeons are known for their resilience. Along with providing food, water, and health sand, the most critical aspect is the careful management of hatching and brooding. A pair of parent pigeons usually lays two eggs, one day apart, with each breeding cycle lasting about 40 days. If you only allow them to lay eggs without letting them hatch, they can produce up to six eggs per month (three times). Eggs laid recently should be artificially incubated for about five days to identify and remove infertile ones. After 13 days, they should be checked again to spot any dead embryos. Once infertile or non-viable eggs are removed, the remaining eggs must be combined promptly. Increasing light exposure using electric lights can also help boost egg production.

2. Routine care for pigeons: Newly hatched pigeons are fed by both male and female parents. By the time they are seven days old, they should be given soft, easily digestible pulp mixes and gradually transitioned to full pellets. If you notice two young pigeons that are significantly different in size, it could indicate digestive issues. Sick pigeons should be given three soybean-sized portions of health sand along with half a yeast tablet. For those suffering from diarrhea, half a terramycin tablet and one probiotic capsule are recommended. Maintaining a clean and well-ventilated loft environment is essential to prevent colds and ensure the overall health of the flock.

3. Feeding young pigeons: Before pairing, young breeders should be fed twice a day, ensuring they eat within 30 minutes of being offered food. Overfeeding can lead to waste and cause the breeders to become overweight, which may affect their ability to pair properly. During the moulting period, extra nutrition is important. In addition to increasing protein in their diet, vitamins should be regularly added. Also, all young pigeons should be dewormed before they are paired to maintain their health and improve breeding success.

By following these detailed steps, farmers can create a productive and healthy environment for their pigeon breeding operation, ensuring high-quality results and long-term sustainability.
