How to cultivate celery seed in hot season

The ideal temperature for celery seed germination is between 15°C and 25°C. Germination becomes challenging when temperatures exceed 30°C. During the hot season, two effective methods can be used to improve seed germination. First, a high-temperature treatment can be applied. Soak the seeds in water for 8 to 10 days before planting. Then, place them in cold water for 24 hours, changing the water every 8 hours. Afterward, gently knead the seeds and rinse them thoroughly with water until the water runs clear. Remove any impurities during this process. Wrap the seeds in a damp cloth, squeezing out excess water. Place them in the refrigerator at around 5°C. Rinse the seeds with fresh water twice a day—once in the morning and once in the evening—for two days. After that, spread the seeds in a well-lit area. Rinse them with cold water twice daily and use a fan to blow air over the seeds for 5 to 10 minutes after each rinse. This helps remove excess moisture, ensuring proper oxygen supply and preventing rot. Germination usually occurs within 5 to 6 days. Second, a cool treatment method can also be used. Take the seeds from the first method and wrap them in a piece of gauze. Hang the wrapped seeds about 40 to 50 cm below the surface of a deep well. Rinse them with water twice a day. After each rinse, dry the surface of the seeds with a fan to increase oxygen availability. Then return the seeds to the well. After 6 to 8 days of this treatment, the seeds will be ready for sowing. Both methods help overcome the challenges of high-temperature germination and significantly improve the success rate of celery seed sprouting. It's important to maintain consistent moisture levels while avoiding over-saturation, which can hinder the germination process. By following these steps carefully, gardeners can achieve better results even in warmer conditions.
