How does the snail breed?

How do snails reproduce? Snails are hermaphrodites, meaning each individual possesses both male and female reproductive organs. During mating, two snails exchange sperm, allowing them to fertilize each other's eggs. The combination of their own eggs with the sperm from another snail results in fertilized eggs. After mating, it typically takes 10 to 15 days for the eggs to develop before they are laid. Once hatched, the young snails grow over a period of about six months. When they reach a weight of more than 40 grams, they become sexually mature and capable of reproduction. Under optimal conditions, a single snail can produce 3 to 4 generations in one year. If kept indoors and prevented from hibernation, snails can lay eggs up to six times annually. The eggs are usually white or light yellow, round in shape, and resemble small grains of white pepper. They have a hard, calcareous shell that protects the developing embryo. Snails generally live for 5 to 6 years, though some may live up to 9 years. In their first breeding cycle, adult snails lay around 50 to 80 eggs, and this number gradually increases over time. By the second year, when their body weight reaches 70 to 90 grams, they can lay 700 to 800 eggs. In the third year, when they weigh between 90 and 120 grams, they may lay over 1,000 eggs. However, egg production tends to decline in subsequent years. Before laying eggs, adult snails dig into a 6 cm deep layer of soil to deposit their eggs. To improve hatching success, the eggs should be collected and placed in containers such as pots or wooden boxes. A 6 cm layer of mixed soil is placed on the bottom of the container, followed by a 6 cm layer of concrete to help retain moisture. Wet sacks are then placed on top, and the cover is sprayed with water 1 to 2 times daily. A pot with a diameter of 40 cm can hold 3,000 to 4,000 eggs. Within 5 to 10 days, the eggs hatch into baby snails, which remain in the soil for a few days before beginning to emerge. As they grow, they start to move toward the surface to feed. At this stage, the newly emerged snails should be transferred to a terrarium for proper care and feeding.
