How to prevent mushroom white rot

First, the symptoms:

The affected mushrooms initially show brown tumors on the cap and stem. These lesions gradually grow larger and eventually form a white mold layer on the surface. As the disease progresses, the mushrooms become deformed and turn into an amorphous, white mass. Some specimens develop thickened stems and irregular caps, and in severe cases, the mushroom shrinks and becomes soft. The infected areas often exude a sticky, brown liquid with a distinct, unpleasant odor.

Second, control methods:

1. Immediately remove the infected mushrooms. Dig out the affected mushrooms along with the culture material up to 10 cm deep and dispose of them outside the growing area to prevent further spread.

2. Apply a protective spray before the mushrooms start to grow. A Bordeaux mixture (1:300 ratio) can be sprayed over the cover surface to reduce the chances of infection.

3. Improve air circulation within the mushroom house by increasing ventilation. This helps lower both temperature and humidity, creating an environment less favorable for the disease to thrive.

In addition to these measures, it's important to maintain good hygiene practices in the growing area. Regularly clean tools and equipment, and avoid overwatering, as excess moisture can encourage fungal growth. Monitoring the crop closely and acting quickly at the first sign of infection can significantly improve the chances of controlling the disease effectively.
