After the autumn delay, peppers must guard against viral diseases

Seed treatment before sowing is an essential step in ensuring healthy plant growth. In addition to selecting disease-resistant varieties, seeds should be soaked in clean water for 3 to 4 hours prior to germination. Afterward, they should be immersed in a 10% trisodium phosphate solution for 20 to 30 minutes to disinfect and reduce the risk of viral infections. Once done, rinse the seeds thoroughly with clean water and allow them to germinate again before planting.

Proper management plays a crucial role in cultivating strong, disease-free seedlings. It's recommended to use single-plant, soil-based nurseries with individual nutrition to ensure optimal growth. Planting only those with pods can help maintain quality. Increasing the application of fully decomposed organic fertilizer promotes early growth and enhances the plant’s natural resistance to diseases. Greenhouse temperature management is also important—especially during the nursery phase and early planting stages when temperatures are high and sunlight is intense. Covering the greenhouse with shade nets or using natural materials like weeds to block direct sunlight helps protect young plants. Ventilation should be regularly managed, especially during midday when temperatures rise, to regulate the internal climate effectively. As soon as diseased plants are identified, they should be removed immediately to prevent the spread of infection.

Timely chemical control of aphids is critical to prevent the spread of viruses. When locusts appear in the field, immediate action is necessary. A mixture of 10% insecticide, such as "Da Hong" or "Alfalfa Net Powder," at a rate of 10–15 grams per 30–40 kg of water, can be sprayed effectively. If the weather is dry, repeated spraying is recommended for continuous protection. In the early stages of disease, applying 1.5% Plant Disease & Lingshui Agent at 100 ml per mu, or 20% Virus A Wettable Powder at 70–100 g per mu, can help manage the issue. Spraying should be done every 5–7 days, with 2–3 consecutive applications for best results. If symptoms are severe, with leaf shrinkage and shortened internodes, adding 1 mg/kg of cytokinin to the solution—using 50 g per mu—can promote cell division and accelerate recovery.

By combining proper seed treatment, effective nursery management, and timely chemical interventions, farmers can significantly improve crop health and yield while reducing the risk of disease outbreaks.
