A new Phalaenopsis orchid variety called “Red Pearl†has recently received certification from Guangdong Province. Developed by the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences Flower Research Institute (postcode: 510640, telephone) in collaboration with Yushan Biotechnology Lanzhou Co., Ltd., this variety is gaining attention for its unique characteristics and strong adaptability.
“Red Pearl†is a multi-flowered orchid with stable and consistent traits, making it ideal for commercial cultivation and ornamental use. At 18 months old, the plants produce sturdy flowering stems. The inflorescences range from 63 to 70 cm in length, with 0 to 2 branches, 9 to 11 main flowers, and a total of 20 or more blossoms per plant. The flowers are round and neatly arranged, with a diameter of approximately 7.8 cm.
This variety exhibits excellent resistance to both heat and cold, which makes it suitable for a wide range of growing conditions. The sepals and petals display a striking purple color with dark red veins and subtle white markings, while the lip is deep purple. The blooming period lasts between 2 to 3 months, offering a long-lasting floral display.
