Tree hazelnuts can grow up to 5–6 meters tall and are planted at a density of 110 trees per acre, yielding around 10,000 yuan per mu. These trees have a life expectancy of 50 years.
The Pingou hybrid hazelnut seedlings from this farm combine the best traits of both wild and cultivated hazelnuts. They offer strong cold resistance, excellent flavor, high yield, and large fruit size. Crossed between *Pinghae haw* as the female parent and *Corylus avellana* as the male parent, these hybrids are pure, high-quality varieties with strong root systems and robust growth. The survival rate is as high as 90% to 95%.
Hybrid hazelnuts have several outstanding advantages:
**I. Strong Adaptability and Wide Ecological Range**
1. They can be planted in various soils, including sandy soil, black soil, humus, red soil, riverbanks, weathered rock, mountains, and flatlands.
2. They can withstand temperatures as low as -30°C to -35°C and are suitable for planting in most of Northeast China, southern Jilin (including Mudanjiang), Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan, Xinjiang, Yunnan, and Tibet. They can be grown in regions between 32° and 42° north latitude.

1. The fruits have beautiful colors, such as yellow, golden, yellow-brown, and red-brown.

Hazelnuts begin to bear fruit in their second year. The yield per mu can reach 500–600 pounds, with an annual value of 9,000–10,000 yuan per mu, assuming a minimum price of 20 yuan per kilogram.
**IV. Simple Planting Methods**
1. Spacing is 2x3 meters, with 110 plants per acre.
2. Dig holes 60–80 cm in diameter and 50–60 cm deep. Mix soil with organic fertilizer at the bottom, then fill with topsoil.
3. Plant in spring, and ensure the roots are well-covered.
4. Trim roots by about one-third before planting to encourage new root growth.
5. Plant at a depth of 10 cm, press the soil firmly, and water thoroughly.
6. After planting, cut back 1/3 of the branches to leave 4–5 healthy buds.

Hazelnuts are rich in fat (57.1%–69.8%), protein (14.1%–18.0%), and carbohydrates (6.5%–9.3%). They also contain essential vitamins (such as C, E, B) and minerals like calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and iron. Their high nutritional content makes them a popular snack, used in chocolates, pastries, ice cream, and health products. Hazelnut oil is rich in unsaturated fatty acids and helps reduce cholesterol.
