Vacuum freeze-drying technology, referred to as freeze-drying, also known as sublimation drying. Lyophilization is a method of pre-freezing an aqueous material and then sublimating it under vacuum to obtain a dried article. The freeze-dried items have the same biological and chemical properties, and are easy to store for a long time. After adding water, they can be restored to the form before lyophilization, and can maintain their original biochemical characteristics. Therefore, freeze-drying technology is widely used in the chemical industry, biological products and other fields.
The FD-1 is a small benchtop freeze-drying device for laboratory sample testing and small-scale production.
There are five types of FD-1: normal type (type A), manual gland type (type B), multi-manifold type (type C), multi-manifold gland type (D type), T-frame type (E) type).
First, the main features
1. This machine adopts air-cooled condensing type totally enclosed compressor refrigeration system, which has rapid cooling, low icing temperature and strong ability to adsorb water. The temperature and vacuum display are digital, accurate and intuitive.
2. Freeze-dried items are naturally heated by air to maintain the safety of the sample.

Fourth, the operation method
Before lyophilization, the items to be dried are placed in a low-temperature refrigerator or liquid nitrogen to freeze the contents completely before freezing.
The main unit and the vacuum pump are connected by a vacuum tube, and the joint is equipped with an international standard clamp. The clamp contains a sealing rubber ring. Before connecting, apply a proper amount of vacuum grease on the rubber ring and then clamp it with a clamp.
The power supply socket of the vacuum pump is installed on the right side of the main unit, and the power line of the vacuum pump is connected.
Check the vacuum pump to confirm that the vacuum pump oil has been filled and that it is not oil-free. The oil level must not be lower than the center line of the oil mirror. Please read the instruction manual of the vacuum pump before using it for the first time.
The “O” type sealing rubber ring above the main cold trap should be cleaned. When using it for the first time, apply a thin layer of vacuum grease. Place the plexiglass cover on the rubber ring and gently rotate it a few times to facilitate sealing. .
A, boot operation
1. Connect the main power cord and turn on the yellow main power switch on the right. At this point, the "cold trap temperature" display window begins to display the temperature of the cold trap;
2. Press the “refrigerator” switch, the chiller starts to run, and the temperature of the cold trap gradually decreases. In order to make the cold trap and have sufficient ability to adsorb moisture, the pre-cooling time should be no less than 30 minutes;
3. Press the “vacuum gauge” switch, and the vacuum degree is displayed as “999”;
4. After the pre-cooling is finished, place the prepared items to be dried in a drying tray, and then cover the plexiglass cylinder.
5. Press the stainless steel tab on the quick inflation valve (located on the right front panel). After you hear the click, pull out the quick inflation valve connector to seal it automatically.
6. Press the “vacuum pump” switch, the vacuum pump will start working, and the vacuum will display “999” until 1000Pa or less to display the actual vacuum. The freeze-drying process begins. Note: When the vacuum pump starts working, press down on the plexiglass cover for a while, which is good for sealing.
7. Multi-manifold type: firstly, the rubber valve should be closed (the valve core is long and upward). When the vacuum degree reaches 20Pa or less, the freeze-dried bottle that has been pre-frozen is inserted into the lower interface of the rubber valve, and the plastic valve core is rotated downward. 180°. (Note: At this time, the vacuum display will rise, and the next bottle should be installed when the vacuum reaches 20Pa or less).
8. T-frame type: Firstly, the rubber valve should be closed (the valve core is vertical rubber tube). When the vacuum degree reaches 20Pa or less, the freeze-dried bottle that has been pre-frozen is inserted into the lower interface of the rubber valve, and the plastic valve core is rotated by 90°. . (Note: At this time, the vacuum display will rise, and the next bottle should be installed when the vacuum reaches 20Pa or less).
B, shutdown operation
1. Insert the quick inflation valve connector into the quick inflation valve seat, and turn off the “vacuum pump” power switch to make the air slowly enter the cold trap; if it needs to be filled with inert gas, connect the decompression catheter of the inert gas to the “inflator port”. .
2. Turn off the “vacuum meter” and “refrigerator”. If you do not need to unplug the power cord for a long time.
3. Lift the plexiglass cover, remove and store the items, and the freeze-drying process is over.
4. After the ice in the cold trap is turned into water, the water needs to be discharged from the outlet of the fast inflation valve. The operation is similar to the inflation.
5. Clean up the water and impurities in the cold trap and properly maintain the equipment. When the vacuum pump is not in use, the exhaust nozzle should be covered to prevent dirt from entering.
6, multi-manifold type, should close the rubber valve one by one and remove the freeze-dried bottle and then repeat the shutdown operation.
Five, matters needing attention
1. This machine is a desktop (desktop type). The main unit is usually placed on the work surface and the vacuum pump is placed on the ground. When there is a sudden power outage, the difference in height between the two helps to prevent the vacuum pump from returning oil.
2. The main engine adopts air-cooled fully enclosed refrigeration system. The refrigerant is environmentally friendly. The ambient temperature should not be too high. It should not exceed 25 °C, otherwise it will affect the normal operation of the refrigerator.
3. The distance between the left side, the right side and the back of the main unit should be more than 20 cm to ensure ventilation and heat dissipation.
4. The two safety seats on the right side of the main unit are the main power supply (back) and the vacuum pump power supply (before). Pay attention to the difference when using.
5. The right side of the main unit is made of stainless steel joints, and the main unit and vacuum pump are connected through the equipped vacuum tube. Before connecting, apply a proper amount of vacuum grease to the joint and then clamp it with a clamp to ensure the seal.
6. The plexiglass cover and the main body cold trap flange are sealed by the “O” rubber seal ring. The rubber seal ring should be cleaned. It can be cleaned with alcohol before and after use, and then a thin layer of vacuum grease is applied. seal.
7, vacuum pump is an important part of the entire equipment, must pay attention to maintenance and maintenance, especially the replacement of pump oil. Please refer to the vacuum pump manual for related items. During the whole operation of the vacuum pump, a small number of gas ballast valves on the vacuum pump can be unscrewed, which can purify a small amount of water or other volatile substances entering the pump to prolong the life of the pump oil. In order to reduce the noise of the vacuum pump and reduce the vibration, a soft object such as foam board or cardboard can be placed under the vacuum pump.
8. Do not switch frequently during operation. If the chiller stops running due to operational errors, it cannot be started immediately. Wait at least 20 minutes before starting again to avoid damage to the chiller.
9. After each freeze-drying, the ice on the cold trap coil is turned into water and then cleaned with a towel.
10. When the lyophilization is finished to inflate the cold trap, it must be slow to avoid damaging the vacuum gauge.
11. Vacuum grease and vacuum pump oil are spare consumables.
Six, common faults and troubleshooting methods
1, the degree of vacuum does not reach the indicator
● Check that the bleed valve is closed. It is also possible to repeatedly open and close the valve during the pumping process, so that the outside air is blown into the valve hole to blow off the impurities in the valve, thereby ensuring the sealing of the valve.
●The vacuum pump is connected to the main unit by a vacuum tube. Check if the clamps at the two joints are tight. The stainless steel joint of the suction port on the right side of the main unit can be tightened clockwise with a large wrench.
● Check that the bottom surface of the plexiglass cover is smooth and flat. Is the “O” rubber seal broken? When the vacuum pump starts working, the glass cover is pressed down for a while, which is good for sealing.
● Check the quality of the vacuum pump oil. Observe whether the pump oil is turbid or mixed with impurities from the oil sight glass. Under normal circumstances, it takes about 200 hours to work continuously, and the vacuum pump oil needs to be replaced.
2, vacuum pump oil leakage: check the oil leakage parts (mainly depending on the oil mirror and gasket), replace the corresponding new accessories.
3. The temperature of the cold trap is too high, generally due to poor heat dissipation or high ambient temperature.
4. Vacuum display “---”: Check the vacuum gauge connection, otherwise please contact us.
