I found myself sitting at an outdoor picnic table today, nestled between the cafeteria walls of her school and the pathway leading to the playground and grassy fields where her PE classes take place. Just the two of us, basking in the warm sunlight that filtered through the trees, sharing what we call our "special lunch dates." It was such a serene moment, watching her interact with the world around her—still so dependent on me in many ways, yet increasingly capable of navigating life independently. Last week, we took Brayden to the local splash park again, this time with his newfound confidence as a newly potty-trained toddler. Watching him run freely in his big-boy swimsuit, carefree and fearless, brought tears to my eyes. Gone was the timid little boy who hesitated last year at the same spot. Now, he was exploring, laughing, and thriving without needing constant reassurance. It was both heartwarming and bittersweet to see him embrace his independence so effortlessly.
