Lighting management of chicken houses

First, the light management of closed chicken houses.

Closed-type broiler houses can use constant light because they are not affected by the outside world, ie light for 0 to 1 week 23 hours, and for 2 to 20 weeks old light for 8 to 9 hours. The use of light during the laying period begins at 21 weeks of age and there should be no light leakage in the closed house.

Second, the light management of open chicken houses.

Different plans should be made based on the hatching date, season, and geographical location. The first week old light system is basically the same as a closed chicken house. There are the following two kinds from the second week of age:

The first is to use natural light. The young chicks in our country from April 15 to September 1 are in a period of gradually shortening their sunshine during the latter half of their growth period. As long as the light does not exceed 10 hours, you can take full advantage of natural lighting.

The second is a combination of artificial light and natural light. This method is suitable for growing chickens from September 1 to April 14 each year. In the specific implementation, it can be divided into two kinds of constant and faded lighting systems.

1. The constant method: The time of daytime when the batch of chicks reached the age of 20 weeks was found to be constant from the second week to the time before the laying of eggs. When the chicks were insufficient, they were artificially supplemented with light.

2. Decrease method: Find out when the batch of chicks reached the age of 20 weeks when the local day time, and then add artificial light for 5 hours, after the week when evenly reduced to 20 weeks, just after the increase of 5 hours.

The above two lighting systems are easier to implement than the former, but the effect of controlled maturation is not as good as the latter. The practice in the latter kind of production has a certain degree of difficulty.

Polyhydroxyalkanoates PHAs

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) comprise a group of natural biodegradable polyesters that are synthesized by microorganisms. However, several disadvantages limit their competition with traditional synthetic plastics or their application as ideal biomaterials. These disadvantages include their poor mechanical properties, high production cost, limited functionalities, incompatibility with conventional thermal processing techniques and susceptibility to thermal degradation. To circumvent these drawbacks, PHAs need to be modified to ensure improved performance in specific applications. In this review, well-established modification methods of PHAs are summarized and discussed. The improved properties of PHA that blends with natural raw materials or other biodegradable polymers, including starch, cellulose derivatives, lignin, poly(lactic acid), polycaprolactone and different PHA-type blends, are summarized. The functionalization of PHAs by chemical modification is described with respect to two important synthesis approaches: block copolymerization and graft copolymerization. The expanded utilization of the modified PHAs as engineering materials and the biomedical significance in different areas are also addressed.
